What the hell, I'm a Highlander addict. I'll take anything they'll give me. After all, I watched the final season of the TV series and the subsiquent movies.

I tried to, but the last made for TV Duncan MacLeod film was garbage...

When it comes to "Highlander" stars, there can only be one. Now, however, there are none, as TheWrap has learned that Ryan Reynolds has exited Summit Entertainment's upcoming reboot, leaving producers Neal Moritz and Peter Davis back at square one.
Summit has been developing "Highlander" for several years, with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ("28 Weeks Later") most recently attached to direct. After a year of working on the project, Fresnadillo had a different vision in mind than Summit and they amicably parted ways in November 2012.
Summit vowed to move quickly in finding Fresnadillo's replacement but still hasn't brought another filmmaker onboard, leaving Reynolds in limbo. An individual familiar with "Highlander" tells TheWrap that Reynolds' exit may actually prove beneficial for the project, as a new director will be able to cast a new leading man rather than inherit a previous filmmaker's decision.
Reynolds was attached to play Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman forced to confront the Kurgan, a brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled "Prize." Christopher Lambert starred in the original along with Clancy Brown and Sean Connert.
Art Marcum and Matt Holloway wrote the "Highlander" reboot, while Noah Oppenheim penned the most recent draft. Melissa Rosenberg also took a stab at the script in 2011.
Justin Lin was originally attached to direct in September 2009, though he exited the project in August 2011 to focus on "Fast and Furious 6."
Reynolds certainly won't be hurting for work, as he'll soon begin filming Tarsem Singh's thriller "Selfless," which FilmDistrict will release on Sept. 26, 2014. He also stars opposite Jeff Bridges in Universal's "R.I.P.D" and voices the title character in "Turbo," which DreamWorks Animation opens July 17.
Reynolds recently wrapped Atom Egoyan's kidnapping thriller "Queen of the Night" and Marjane Satrapi's psychological thriller "The Voices." He's repped by CAA and attorney David Weber.
Tom Cruise wanted for Sean Connery role in 'Highlander' reboot
Tom Cruise is reportedly wanted for the long-planned reboot of Highlander.
According to TheWrap, the production company behind the project, Summit Entertainment, is "courting" Cruise to take on the mentor role made famous by Sean Connery in the 1986 original.
However, a representative for Cruise told TheWrap rather coolly that Highlander "is one of many projects that come to him and he discusses" - before adding that Cruise is "far from talks" to sign up for the role.
Report: Dave Bautista to play villain in 'Highlander' reboot
Guardians Of The Galaxy star Dave Bautista will reportedly play the villain in the long-planned Highlander reboot.
According to Latino Review, a usually reliable source of casting scoops, Bautista has landed the role of The Kurgan, the barbarian antagonist played by Clancy Brown in the original Highlander film.
Former world champion wrestler Bautista is best known for playing Drax The Destroyer in last year's Guardians Of The Galaxy. He will also appear in forthcoming Bond film Spectre as a mysterious character called Mr Hinx.
I have as much interest in this as I do in watching the last Adrian Paul highlander movie in its entirety. (I caught the last 10 minutes a few weeks ago. It was awful.)

John Wick' Director Chad Stahelski Tackling 'Highlander' Reboot
There can be only one and, in this case, it's Chad Stahelski.
Stahelski, who, along with David Leitch, was the filmmaker behind John Wick, has signed on to direct the long-gestating reboot of Highlander for Lionsgate.
"I've been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school," Stahelski told The Hollywood Reporter. "Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can't think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces."
Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis are producing the project, which could also see Stahelski and Leitch join the team via their 87Eleven production and action stunt company, though that is still to be determined.
The original Highlander starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings, hunting down one another and collecting more power. Lambert played Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, Connery portrayed Egyptian Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez and Clancy was a barbarian known as the Kurgan. The film — with its "There can be only one" catchphrase — spawned four sequels and three television series.
The Highlander reboot has been in the works since 2008 when Lionsgate-owned label Summit acquired the rights. The project has seen directors such as Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan go through its doors.
But Lionsgate never gave up on what it believes could be its next big franchise. A search for new scribes to work with Stahelski is about to get underway.
Stahelski worked in the stunt world and doubled for Keanu Reeves in the Matrix movies before co-creating the stunt company 87Eleven with Leitch.
They worked as second unit directors on action movies ranging from Ninja Assassin to Captain America: Civil War and made their directorial debut with the well-regarded actioner John Wick, which starred Reeves and was released by Lionsgate.
Stehelski is coming off of directing the recently wrapped John Wick: Chapter 2. He is repped by WME and Lichter Grossman.
