Now, how many of these pages did Wayne own at one time?

I especially like the Ant-man, Triton and X-men pages.

But, Linda just said he sucks. :?

Seriously, he was probably the first artist I collected. However, the fanboy in me was crushed when, on my first visit to NYC in my late teens, I went by the offices of Continuity Studios and he refused my request for an autograph. I still recall the receptionist stepping into his office (in sight of the door) then coming back out and saying, sorry, nope. During the same visit, I visited the Marvel offices and John Byrne not only gave me an autograph but also let me have photocopies of several pages of the Hulk he had just drawn but had not yet been inked. While it was certainly within Adams' rights to decline my request, I always found the contrast striking and it soured me on the guy for a long time.

Is that a convertible quinjet they're riding in on that bottom page? I love it!

Now, this thread is more like it...!

As a young lad, I was always drawn to his unique rendition of The Dark Knight. One of the great comics artists, to be sure.

:ohyes: :yay: :ohyes:

Adams & Palmer were great for Marvel, meanwhile Adams & Giordiano were great for DC. Can't lose with either choice...

I'll bet that only cost $4000-$8000
or something reasonable like that.

I think I paid about $100... which was more than I usually would have for a rough sketch - but it was the only time I ever saw a Neil Adams piece that I wanted which was remotely near my price range.

I LOVE Neal Adams, but the credit given to him for introducing "realism" into comic books is way overrated. Russ Heath, Gene Colan, Al Williamson, Gray Morrow, Reed Crandall did it better - without the distracting panel compositions and even layouts within the panels. With the exception of his Green Lantern stuff, most of his work distracts me from the story. This is especially true for his X-Men.

Having said that, my favorite inker on him was the issue of Green Lantern with Berni Wrightson inks. There is a subtlety of line there that Giordano just could not quite deliver, as masterful as it was.

The pages from Avengers posted up above are among my favourite art ever. The Avengers issue where Ant-man goes inside the vision is the best comic art that I have ever seen, and blows anything Ditko, Kirby, Curt Swan did out of the water like a scud missile.

It is indeed very good. Except he can't draw the Thing worth a flip.

In the field of comic art, Neal Adams wasn't worthy to sharpen Jack Kirby's pencil.

And speaking of artists whose later work sucks, Ditko's later 1970's Marvel work is absolutely dreadful drek - a far greater fall than that of Adams, whose work presented in this thread at least suggest he is trying to do a good job.

Yeah, but Ditko's height -- creating one of the three most famous and popular superheroes on planet Earth -- is far higher than anything Adams has or will ever achieve by a country mile. A really cool run on a character that was already popular is great and all -- but it ain't like creating Spidey.
