Product Description
2010 release, the sophomore album from the British Alt-Rock band, released on the band's own record label. On Optimist, N.Y.P.C. has gone back to the '80's, influenced by the likes of Siouxsie & The Banhsees, The Pretenders and PJ Harvey. If 2007's critically acclaimed, Mercury Music Prize nominated Fantastic Playroom was the culmination of the hybrid Disco sound they pioneered, The Optimist heralds the beginning of a brave new future for the band. Self-produced and more importantly self-funded and self-released, The Optimist is the sound of a band taking full control of their present and future, circumnavigating their own way. With no four on the floor, no cowbell and no monotone sexy talk, the creative freedom enjoyed by the band has opened up a new experimental side, as shown by the Psychedelic Dub balladry of 'Stone' and the atmospheric, cracked beauty of 'Architect Of Love', and the singles 'Lost A Girl', 'Chaos' and 'We Want To'.

1. Lost A Girl
2. Chaos
3. The Optimist
4. Stone
5. We Want To
6. Dolls
7. Before The Light
8. Oh Cherie
9. Rapture
10. Architect Of Love

New Young Pony Club: 'Recording our new album was like cutting our guts out'
Band joke about laboured recording process for 'The Optimist'

New Young Pony Club's Andy Spence has joked about how recording the band's new album 'The Optimist' was akin to self-mutilation.

The band are set to return with the follow-up to 2007's 'Fantastic Playroom' on March 8, and have admitted that the recording of it was far from easy, including early scrapped studio sessions.

Watch an exclusive video interview with Spence and singer Tahita Bulmer below.

When asked in the video interview what the recording of the album was like, guitarist/producer Spence replied, "Like cutting my own guts out."

Bulmer added that while some songs came easily, some were hugely difficult to finish.

"Even on the first album you do a song, it was easy, great fun… but there were also moments when it was hard, it was gruelling," she said. "It was same on this album, you'd have moments of pure inspiration and you'd have moments when you are slogging your guts out."

New Young Pony Club preview 'The Optimist' at London club show
Band showcase second album in Soho

New Young Pony Club previewed their forthcoming second album 'The Optimist' by playing an intimate London club gig last night (February 9).

The four-piece played a show at the Madame JoJo's venue in Soho, treating the crowd to newies including 'Lost A Girl', 'We Want To' and 'Chaos'. They also covered 'Dress' by PJ Harvey.

While some critics who have had early listens have hailed the new album (out March 8) as a darker affair than the band's 2007 debut, 'Fantastic Playroom', the band stuck to the punchier, dance-influenced songs from 'The Optimist' for their setlist. 'We Want To' in particular drew an enthusiastic crowd response.

They ended their set with older single 'The Bomb'.

New Young Pony Club played:

'Dolls'
'Hiding On The Staircase'
'Chaos'
'Ice Cream'
'Lost A Girl'
'Dress'
'The Get Go'
'We Want To'
'The Bomb'
