Them Crooked Vultures planning second albumDave Grohl and co want it to be louder than their debut November 20, 2009 http://www.nme.com/news/them-crooked-vultures/48484 Them Crooked Vultures have confirmed that they are to start work on their second album. Despite their self-titled debut having only been released earlier this month, the three-piece say they are already thinking about its follow-up. "I felt we've only just started to pick up steam. Why would we want to stop now?" singer Josh Homme told The Sun, while bassist John Paul Jones agreed. "We all know we have so much more in us yet," he said. Dave Grohl said that "when we make our second record, it's going to be even more powerful than this one". Meanwhile, Homme has said he doesn't like the band being labelled a 'supergroup'. "It's not that I hate that term," he said. "I just don't shave with it, I don't eat with it and it doesn't mean anything to me."

Cool. I really like everything I've heard off the new album so far. Linda adds — the discussion thread for the first Them Crooked Vultures album can be found here:http://www.imwan.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=51365

What is the general consensus here on the FIRST album by this trio? I'm not familiar enough with the other two, but I'm somewhat familiar with John Paul Jones' solo work (2 solo albums, a soundtrack album, an album with the scary (or is it "misunderstood"?) Diamanda Galas). I find it an extension of JPJ's solo work, but not sure what to make of it otherwise. Kinda wish he would use his talents to showcase something more "In-Through-The-Out-Doorish", the more Jones' heavy Zeppelin album. Still, good to hear him. I would welcome a second album by Them Crooked Vultures!
I wonder what will become of this stuff he and Page did with Jason Bonham. You know, the album Plant refused so he could do his thing with Alisson Kraus. It was a nice album, but I thought it was over-rated and paled in comparison to his Strange Sensation stuff. I was hoping he would join Page and Jones! I have a feeling it would've been good!

Scumbag Blues is a scary-good homage to Cream.

I know what you mean, but not Cream so much as BBM. (Bruce, Baker, Moore). I don't hear the Clapton so much as the Moore.

Funny, me too upon first listen. Give me more time. I think JPJ holds promise. Not convinced this is it. May be his turn to team up with Page. Forget Plant.

I hear a lot of Cream and a little Zeppelin in this, but by far the biggest similarity I pick up is to Masters of Reality. If you like this, you REALLY need to check out MoR. The Black Sabbath-stolen name is really a misnomer. MoR also reminded me of Cream a little. They even had Ginger Baker on drums for one album, Sunrise on the Sufferbus, which is my favorite. The drumming was incredible and IMO Ginger's finest hour. Too bad nobody heard it!

Them Crooked Vultures to record second album this summerJohn Paul Jones reveals studio plan February 3, 2010 http://www.nme.com/news/them-crooked-vultures/49566 Them Crooked Vultures bassist John Paul Jones has explained that the band plan to record their second album later this year. The bassist, along with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme, had previously revealed they planned to record a second album but now Jones has said we can expect it before 2010 ends. "We'll do a second album this year," he told Stuff.co.nz. "By the end of summer, something like that." He added, "We're all hard workers. In a way we need to do this for ourselves. Once we committed to it we worked as hard as a young band would, put the hours in. It's got to be good – we've got reputations to uphold more than anything else."

Dave Grohl 'rushed to doctor' during Them Crooked Vultures album sessionBand joke that drummer had taken in 'too much caffeine' March 16, 2010 http://www.nme.com/news/them-crooked-vultures/50248 Them Crooked Vultures have joked about how drummer Dave Grohl was supposedly "rushed to doctor" because he'd overdosed on caffeine – by drinking too much coffee. The band, also featuring Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, posted a video online explaining Grohl's coffee-drinking habits. Watch it by scrolling down and clicking below. In the video, which features studio footage of the band at work on their next album, it is explained that, "Two weeks after this video was shot, Dave was rushed to doctor due to the onset of unwanted physical effects caused by too much caffeine. For reals. He was kind of a mess." The message continues, "Since then he has reduced his intake of the super delicious hot beverage to a healthier level." Watch the video below to see Grohl's caffeine intake first-hand and for an inside look into the recording of the band's next album, the follow-up to the trio's self-titled debut, released last November. Dave Grohl was hospitalised by coffee overdoseThem Crooked Vultures man says band video wasn't a joke March 23, 2010 http://www.nme.com/news/them-crooked-vultures/50329 Dave Grohl says he was recently hospitalised because he drank too much coffee. Them Crooked Vultures, his band with Josh Homme and John Paul Jones, recently posted a jokey video online explaining the overdose. Many fans believed it to be completely in jest – but Grohl has now confirmed that he really did have a hospital visit. "We were in the studio making a record and I was drinking a lot of coffee," he told Absolute Radio last night (March 22) – when Them Crooked Vultures played a Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the London Royal Albert Hall. He added: "I was doing Vultures stuff at night, Foo Fighters stuff during the day and I had a newborn at home so I was sleeping two-three hours a night on an air mattress in a guest bedroom. And yeah, I had too much coffee, I started to get chest pains so I went to the hospital and they told me to stop drinking the coffee."
