Just putting this here because it's quite clear a new album is on the way. The other info which I think is in the ICEbox could also be put here as well-thanks!
From hennemusic.com:
The Cars are becoming quite the tease.
In July, the band posted a photo of themselves in the studio on their Facebook page, with the caption “Anyone in the mood for a reunion by The Cars?”
The photo showed bandmates Rick Ocasek, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson (bassist Benjamin Orr died of pancreatic cancer in 2000).
In October, The Cars posted a 73-second snippet of a new song, "Blue Tip," on their facebook page, whetting fans appetites for more music from the reunited band.

Wow, I'm impressed. These songs DO sound like the Cars, and not from their crappy era either. I'm definitely getting this one. This sounds like it should have been the followup album to Candy-O instead of Panorama. When is it supposed to come out?

When did they have a crappy era? I loved it all.

Everything after Panorama.
I really like the self titled debut, Heartbeat City & the song Tonight She Comes from GH, but Panaorama & Candy-O never did all that much for me.
Currently I have the 2 cd b/o "Anthology".

i think when it came to 80's mtv artists i was mostly a hits oriented kinda guy.Berlin, Prince & Bowie are the only major exceptions that quickly come to mind.

CANDY-O? Really? I think that one's better than the first.
I can understand not liking Shake It Up, but man, Candy-O?
I'm with Hank - Candy-O is probably my favorite Cars album.

Mine too-although the first is also a masterpiece. Heartbeat City is another masterpiece albeit a very different one. Both Panorama and Shake It Up are very good and Door To Door has it's moments. Quite frankly, IMO, these guys never did a dud and went out with a fantastic career unlike many bands.

I'm loving these new song clips, especially "Sad Song." I'm in the camp that believes while "Panorama" and "Door to Door" have their ups and downs, there's no dud in the Cars' discography. None are even close. I'd be hard pressed to say there's a 2011 album I'm looking more forward to than this one.
