Description
* Deluxe digipak showcasing The Shirts' electrifying 1981 live performance
* Japanese-style obi strip (because proper resurrections deserve proper presentation)
* 14 tracks shot out of a cannon straight from Hi-Five Studios (Annie Golden's words, not ours)
* 12-page booklet with essay and photos (because some resurrections need documentation)

Some live albums preserve history--this one rewrites it. The Shirts - Live feat. Annie Golden is the first-ever release of a blistering 1981 session that captures NYC's cult heroes at full voltage, recorded at Manhattan's Hi-Five Studios and buried for over four decades until now. These 14 songs--all previously unreleased--finally explode into daylight, showcasing The Shirts as CBGB's most combustible live band when they were freed from their Capitol Records contract and burning with pure purpose. Annie Golden commands the mic with fierce joy while the band tears through a set that blends melodic finesse with downtown grit, hitting every track like a mission statement--tight, tuneful, and totally unchained. Expertly mixed from the original multi-tracks by Prof. Stoned, this isn't just a live album--it's a resurrection of a long-lost NYC treasure that proves sometimes the best recordings are the ones that almost got away.

This is a very exciting release. The Shirts were slated to record a fourth studio album for Capitol Records in 1981, and had a bunch of excellent songs written for it. Unfortunately, the group broke up and the album never happened. This new CD contains live in-studio renditions of the songs -- it's as close as we'll ever get to hearing that lost fourth Shirts album.

As a taster, you can hear the first two songs in this old video recorded off Manhattan cable TV. The CD will be of much higher audio quality, of course!

Here's the first sample from the CD, the opening track "Little Bit Of Action". As expected, vastly improved audio quality compared to the old video I linked to above:

Another sample, "Laura's In The Lion's Den":

I am so excited for this release. I LOVED this band. I went to their show at the Paradise in Boston the night before the LSATs. Stayed up all night, was exhausted the next day. Didn't care.
