Decided to start a TV thread. Why not? We have a movies thread, so it's time! I'm sure numerous shows are covered upstairs, but for us cellar dwellers, here it is.

Although I stopped watching TV for a few years, I now watch quite a few things I enjoy. I'm not going to list all of them right now, but I think Boardwalk Empire is amazing and way better than The Sopranos ever was. I also love Psych which I'm sure either annoys people or amuses them like it does me.
I was also very pleased with Grimm last week which did well ratings-wise. We'll see if it can hold this week. I really liked Week One.
And damn, Modern Family is the funniest show on TV-the writing is amazing each week! And what a cast. I also feel that way about Parenthood which is really, really good (although some weeks certain characters disappear).

I have watched and enjoyed "The Good Wife" right from the start. I got into 'The Walking Dead about episode 4 last year, and have liked it since. Graphic for sure, but well-written and acted.
I am also watching "Once Upon A Time"(first 2 episodes) and "Grimm(1 episode). I like the idea of mixing fairy-tale characters with "real" people, and am willing to go along for the ride. I have recorded "American Horror Story" but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I look forward to the return of "The Killing"
AMC sucks when it comes to their movie schedule, but they sure have produced some good original programming.

Upstairs is the Playroom. Downstairs is the WANderground. ICE is in the foyer. :)

"Person of Interest" is fantastic television. Best new show of the season, IMO.

The only shows I never miss are Jeopardy!, The Simpsons, and Ghost Hunters. During the summer, I watch every Yankee night game (although not always to conclusion). I like O'Reilly on FNC. Mostly, I watch a lot of stuff on History, Discovery, NGC, and other science-centric channels. I'm a sucker for anything paranormal related.

And then there's always my ever-expanding DVD collection....

I watch very little network TV, but there are quire a few things that I never miss...

Starting w/network - Sunday is the Simpsons, Family Guy and Cleveland Show. Cleveland Show has become something of a habit, but of those three, it's by far my least favorite. I don't feel bad if I miss that. I still love the Simpsons, even if it's not the show it once was. And Family Guy almost always makes me laugh.

Mondays it's Mike And Molly - Billy Gardell is very funny (and a Pittsburgh boy), and the chemistry between him and Melissa McCarthy works. Wednesdays is Modern Family - as IP said, possibly the best-written show on network right now, and if you saw the writer's acceptance speeches at the Emmys, it's easy to see why. Hell, Levitan's wife was funny and she just sat in the audience.

Thursdays is my favorite newwork show Big Bang Theory.- this one hits a little too close to home. My wife laughs way too hard at this (although, in fairness, neither my son nor I are quite on their intellectual level, but we are nerds). Jim Parsons was the perfect choice for Sheldon.

And I always tape Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson. The best thing on late night now. And I hope he never moves to 11:30 - his stuff just works at 12:30. Whoever came up with Geoff Peterson deserves a big bonus. In his pants.

On cable, Sundays is Dexter and now Homeland. Homeland has sort of sucked me in - I wasn't sure I'd like it. Dexter I picked up during the writer's strike when they showed it on CBS. This show has had some great performances - Lithgow as Trinity, anyone? - and some great shocking moments. Jennifer Carpenter is great as Dexter's sister, and she's been getting the best lines. And who hasn't known a Vince Matsuka at some point?

Tuesday is Tosh.0 - I love his sense of humor. Some of the clips are good, some are great, some just make you shake your head. The human race will never run out of stupidity.

Wednesday is South Park - I can still vividly remember my reaction watching the very first show. Again, like the Simpsons, it doesn't always hit on all cylinders, but when it good, it's fantastic. "Guitar Queer-O" will always have a special place in my heart.

Thursdays I'm watching Beavis and Butthead - too early to tell if it's going to live up to its former incarnation, but the first ep was pretty good - and Dave's Old Porn, which is pretty much Mystery Science Theater with porn movies. Although not as good. This one may be jettisoned soon. Fridays is Real Time With Bill Maher, if mostly for the panel discussion now. Maher is getting a bit over the top lately. Although I do laugh when he present his liberal point of view all show, then castigates the audience if they get too enthusiastic for a liberal (or against a conservative).

I catch Countdown occasionally, mostly just for the Worst Persons segment, but I never miss The Daily Show and Cobert Report. It's a sad indictment of the state of the news media that something like the Daily Show does a better job at exposing the lies and corruption and stupidity in the world than the 'serious' news shows.

Not currently on, but stuff I watch - Game Of Thrones, Green Room With Paul Provenza - a great comedy roundtable (if you can, see the episode with Jim Jefferies, Bobby Slayton, Paul Mooney and Rain Pryor), That Metal Show, The Big C, Californication and True Blood.

Thank goodness they have the shifted seasons now - I couldn't do all that cable stuff on a regular basis!

I think The Simpsons has enjoyed a renaissance over the past 3 seasons. The writing has gotten sharper, and they reintroduced the idea of a disfunctional but loving family.

I loved VH1 Classic when it first started, but now they rarely show videos anymore. I think it's time for VH1 Classic Classic.

I'm about 10 years behind on "The Simpsons." Literally--Season 14 comes to DVD next month. FWIW, Season 13 was far better than the two or three seasons that preceded it (the Mike Scully years) so I'm anticipating 14 far more than usual. (It's been a year since Season 13--what gives?)

We prefer watching TV shows on DVD season sets, which is why "Parks And Recreation" is such an anomaly for us--we don't get cable, so we wind up watching steaming episodes from the NBC website on a laptop. We put up with it because we love the show, but I really don't understand how shitty streaming video (with commericals, no less) is supposed to eventually make DVD's obsolete.

Good idea on the breakdowns!

Mondays we watch Mike And Molly-a very funny show (although I 100% could do without the drunken mother and stoned sister), and who cares if they are rotund? Nice not to see "prefect" bodies! Plus, Melissa Mccarthy is funny as hell. I'm staying with Two And A Half men for now, but it's getting increasingly stupider. Ashton Kutcher isn't bad but the writing is obssessed with masturbation and this week's episode was lame.
And I always watch MNF even though it seems lackluster not being on a major network and cable (ESPN does a good job but it doesn't feel important anymore).
Also, I truly enjoy the artsyness/weirdness of HBO's Bored To Death which has a great cast.

Tuesdays we watch Parenthood which has great acting from all involved. I love the show.

Wednesdays it's Psych which is so damn funny, clever and fun to watch (and man do they have some great references most people wouldn't get), and Modern Family which is brilliant. I also like Up All Night on NBC but it could be funnier. It is well done but plays a little too close to a 30 Rock type of style.

On Thursdays I adore Parks And Recreation (Ron Swanson is the man), and still enjoy The Office (James Spader was a great addition). I'm staying with Community but a lot of times, that show is too cute for it's own good and the writing is too strange. Whitney pretty much sucks but I'll give it a few more tries. Big Bang Theory is awesome and never disappoints. And, I really enjoy The League on FX but it's been too crude and juvenile lately. I tried It's Always Sunny...but I can't get into it at all.
When 30 Rock returns I'm not sure if I will-the last 2 seasons have been lousy IMO.

Fridays looks like I'll be recording Grimm. I loved the debut last week-I'm curious if they can keep it up.

I still check in with Saturday Night Live if we're not out, but it's usually bad and sometimes decent. There is talent on there and some skits are very funny. But when they're bad, watch out-and that's often.

I gave up on The Simpsons and Family Guy years ago and they'll never get me back but I do admit to liking Bob's Burgers. Boardwalk Empire defines awesome (and brutal) and I enjoy Hung due to the incredible nudity and Thomas Jane is great. The Walking Dead is so damn good every week-zombies rule. And of course I watch football all damn day and the NFL Newtork wrapup on Sunday nights-I love Mariucci (how does he put up with Irvin and Deon???).
Also, True Blood, Game Of Thrones and Curb Your Enthusiasm when on, although Curb has really gone downhill.

I only get to watch some of this live-that's why we have DVD-Rs! I'm usually at work for most of the shows. And, of course I watch MLB, MLS, NHL and other things sports-related too.

The only scripted show I currently watch is Dexter. My buddy has been director of photography since the first episode and he has also directed several episodes of the show, and of TrueBlood. He directed one of the Lithgow episodes ("If I Had A Hammer") that Alan referred to.

We visited him on the set of season 6 several weeks ago. Here are my wife, 2 girls, and my oldest daughter's boyfriend in the Dexter "police station".

Thanks! It was a fun day for sure. We watched them film a scene between Dexter and Deb in his "apartment", then my friend took us around to that police station set, Rita's apartment and a creepy church set for season 6. I really wanted a pic by Dexter's air conditioner but I didn't ask because they were filming on that set. The cast and crew were very busy, but they were such a nice group of people. They even wanted us to have lunch with them LOL.

We hope to go next summer if the show returns because my buddy wants us to watch them film Dexter finishing someone off (which we would LOVE).

I'm a fan of the new CBS show Unforgettable with the gorgeous Poppy Montgomery (what arms this girl has). :D
The show is shot in NYC and last week had an episode shot at Whitestone Bowling Lanes! My old neighborhood.

Still enjoy Survivor after all these years and continue to watch comedies like Community/ The Office/ Parks And Recreation/ Modern Family/ and 30 Rock.

Latest winning must see shows? The Walking Dead on AMC and American Horror Story on FX (how can anyone be missing this one?)

Wow, you are lucky, Dan! Dexter is our favorite show. That police station is iconic by now! Remember the scene where
Spoiler: show
John Lithgow visits the station?

We've always watched it on DVD (after discovering the show through the first season on Netflix). It's painful to have to wait a whole year after broadcast.

Even I am running behind on "Dexter". Frantically playing catchup via Blu-rays and DVR'd episodes!

I knew I was going to forget something! I watch Hung and Curb as well. Some of the women on Hung are great. I got into Curb the year of the Seinfeld reunion. There have been some great episodes and some that are kind of bleah. I loved the Bill Buckner episode, and the episode where Larry gave the kid the sewing machine was awesome - whoever found that kid should have gotten a huge bonus.

And I have peeked in at SNL more the last couple years than the previous 10 or so, but that show (and awards shows) is one of the reasons I give thanks for the DVR (and before it, the VCR). A 90-minute show in less than 15 minutes? Yes!

I didn't mention the NHL because it seemed too obvious...

I'll try, but I think Michael would pull a real Dexter on me! I did get a good look at her Prius though, LOL
