Man, what a treasure trove of clips Don Kirsher's Rock Concert has in its archive. When is guy going to release is stuff? Can't be all a legal matter.
It probably is just that. Music licensing fees and clearances from artists have held up many DVD box sets or forced the substitution of music on some that have been released. Plus, Kirshner would have to okay it as well.
I think a DVD with commentary from Kirshner himself would be hilarious. He's so droll and devoid of personality.
Great clip . I watched DKRC all the time but I don't remember this one. I know I saw them on it but for some reason I thought it was Gypsy . Do they ever do Gypsy on it ?

Nope-just 5 songs with canned crowd noise-though the music is definitely live (DKRC always had fake crowd desite having a real crowd sometimes!). Been a while since I converted this to DVD, but if I remember they played War Pigs, Hole In The Sky, Killing Yourself To Live, Snowblind and I think Iron Man, but I might be wrong. Snowblind is hilarious as they have "snow" falling from the sky-guess Mr. Kirshner wasn't too hip on what "snow" Sabbath were singing about! Total running time is 25 minutes on this-great stuff.

What's really annoying is when DKRC put fake crowd noise on music videos!!
On KISSology volume I, they show the DKRC broadcast versions of "I Want You," "Love 'Em And Leave 'Em," and "Hard Luck Woman." These were lip-synched performance clips and yet, you can hear the canned applause. There are excerpts of these videos on KISS's Extreme Close Up DVD without the crowd noise.
On the other hand, it's fun watching the decidedly un-charismatic Kirshner introducing KISS as he reads off a cue card.
I would love to see "authorized bootlegs" of Sabbath . A few with Ozzy and a couple with Dio and Gillan . The Rhino "Live At Hammersmith" was great so why not do some more. I would love to see one with Gillan , the Born Again show at the Nassau Coliseum was an excellent show so I'm sure the rest of the tour must have been good. Years ago I had a decent 2 lp bootleg from the Born Again tour called "Digital Bitch" from Stockholm which was a good show.
I have a Sabbath show from the "Born Again" tour in Worcester, MA that was aradio broadcast-it's a killer show, although Gillan struggled with the Ozzy and Dio material. "Born Again" is an amazing album (the mix sucks, but what can you do), and the tour and that whole era was quite bizarre for Sabbath. And the "Zero The Hero" video rules!

Not that odd-Rick played on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and his son has been Ozzy's keyboardist for about 4 years now and was Sabbath's keys player in 2004 and 2005. Rick also played on Ozzy's "Ozzmosis" LP and Ozzy sang on Rick's "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" sequel or whatever the hell that was called back around '99 or so.

I was thinking about it more in the context of the interview itself. I wasn't aware that Wakeman had a show where he interviewed other musicians.
Rick Wakeman is actually considered quite the TV celebrity over in Europe. Sort of a comedian/ storyteller. I saw his show here in LI and its not to be missed.

btw....the recently re-mastered Paranoid release found in Europe is worthy of tracking down if your a big Sab fan. Sounds great and includes the great Quad mix of the album too.

Are there any plans with Rhino do do the rest of the Sabbath catalog ?
According to Joe Siegler who runs the excellent Sabbath website a box set is in the works for 1983-95. Don't know when or what it will entail, but it is this era where legitimate rarities exist. With Sanctuary/Universal doing the remasters overseas (don't know if it stops at "Master Of Reality" or if they're continuing), I don't know what Rhino/Warner plans on doing. I've been waiting forever for any further info.

With the exception of 1992's Dehumanizer, Warner Bros. stopped releasing Sabbath albums after 1987's The Eternal Idol, so it's doubtful that Rhino will be releasing albums from the Iommi Sabbath years. They'd have to license those albums and let's face it, those albums don't have the appeal of Sabbath with either Ozzy or Dio.

For all their boxsets Rhino cross license, so I don't think that will be a problem. The only other label involved was IRS (1988-90 and 1993-96) and they're defunct now-not sure where those rights lie. But, it is in the works. I really hope it happens. I'm also curious if the overseas remasters will go far or not. Also, Dehumanizer was on reprise which is a Warner label. The 1996 best of "The Sabbath Stones" was an IRS release and had Warner Bros. material as well.

A while back, I picked up The Sabbath Stones collection to hear some of the Tony Martin tracks. They weren't bad, but I didn't find them that great, either.
To me Sabbath is either the original or the one with Dio.
I liked "Trashed" and "Zero The Hero" off the Born Again album, but the rest of it...well, I think that Ian Gillan was a mismatch with Sabbath. And even Gillan agrees on that one.

I'll add "Digital Bitch" and especially "Hot Line" and "Keep It Warm" from the same album.
But after that album? Meh...
