"Spring Session M" - CD available 1/8/2021
Formed in 1980 by the core trio of Dale and Terry Bozzio along with Warren Cuccurullo, Missing Persons perfectly fit into the New Wave movement. With her quirky singing style and colorful homemade attire put together from various forms of plastic, along with anything else that captured her interest, Dale Bozzio created a unique image that was both ear and eye candy. Husband Terry brought powerhouse drumming to their sound that was impressive and astounding, and added immediate credibility. Warren brought a rocking guitar sound that could either provide a melodic accompaniment or blistering solo, all with a distinctive sound that was very much his own.
Missing Persons’ first release was a 7” 4-track EP that quickly became a west coast hit with the immediate high energy of Mental Hopscotch, a song which the band mimed to in the 1981 movie Lunch Wagon. This was enough to catch the attention of Capitol Records who signed Missing Persons and re-released a slightly modified 12” version of the EP in 1982. Replacing the quirky cover of The Doors’ track Hello, I Love You with a new composition called Words, Dale Bozzio could regularly be seen reciting the lyrics “Do you hear me? Do you care…” in the music video on MTV, which was put into heavy rotation.
Released in late 1982, the full length debut album Spring Session M (an anagram for the band’s name) became an instant hit, eventually achieving Gold status. Now including additional members Patrick O’Hearn and Chuck Wild on bass and keyboards, the music video for the hit single Destination Unknown was put into heavy rotation on MTV and video shows around the country. Two additional chart singles, Windows and Walking In L.A., were also released.
Rubellan Remasters is proud to reissue the full catalog of the original Missing Persons, starting with Spring Session M. Dynamically remastered from original master tapes from the Universal Music tape archive, Spring Session M not only includes the original 12 album tracks, but has been expanded to include the additional songs from the debut EP. "Rhyme & Reason" - CD available 1/8/2021
The 1984 sophomore album by Missing Persons, Rhyme & Reason, saw the band taking a more experimental approach. The prevailing sound of the album was Terry Bozzio’s electronic drums and percussion. Dale Bozzio reserved her trademark squeak to only one song while a couple of the single releases take a more serious lyrical direction. The album cover, with its sophisticated black and white Helmut Newton photos showing a generally make-up free band, could be somewhat misleading because the music video for the first single Give showed Missing Persons as colorful and distinctive as ever. Give was also the first Missing Persons single to be given the 12” Dance Mix treatment, extending the running time to nearly 7 minutes.
The pure pop Right Now was released as a second single and playful music video, while third single Surrender Your Heart took a more melodic approach with acoustic guitars complimenting the keyboard washes. The experimental All Fall Down and Racing Against Time added further layers to another strong album. Rhyme & Reason closes with what is arguably the best track, If Only For The Moment. The song had been remixed for an intended 12” single release but ended up left in the vault until finally being rescued for inclusion on a 2002 compilation CD, and now remastered from the original master tape and added as one of the bonus tracks on this newly remastered and expanded edition of Rhyme & Reason.

"Color in Your Life" - CD available 1/8/2021
The third and final album from the original incarnation of Missing Persons appeared in 1986. Color In Your Life was given a big name producer in Bernard Edwards and a budget with the intention of advancing Missing Persons beyond their semi-cult status. Despite its big booming production sound, the album was still undeniably Missing Persons. Dale Bozzio’s voice sounded strong and confident, Terry Bozzio’s drumming was just as impressive as ever, Warren Cuccurullo’s guitars were still given a spotlight despite the increased focus on the rhythm section, and Patrick O’Hearn’s basslines remained intricate and detailed.
The first single, I Can’t Think About Dancin’, looked straight to the club scene with a whomping beat and groovy bassline. The extended 12” version of the song added further elements to the mix to lure patrons to the dancefloor. No Secrets and Face To Face maintained the high energy hooks fans had come to expect from Missing Persons, while Boy I Say To You continued the experimental side.
The stellar title track to Color In Your Life was planned as the follow up single, but was ultimately scrapped with nothing more than a promotional 12” single appearing before support for the album had faded. By this time, the Bozzio’s had gone their separate ways and Missing Persons disbanded.
Three members formed immediate connections with fellow new wavers Duran Duran, with Terry and Patrick joining departed Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor for his solo album Thunder, while Warren became Duran’s replacement guitarist. Dale released a solo album in 1988 on Prince’s Paisley Park label before returning to the Missing Persons name in the early 90’s.
In the time since Missing Persons, Terry Bozzio has been justly recognized as one of the greatest and in demand drummers, Patrick O’Hearn has continued to release a string of acclaimed New Age albums, Warren Cuccurullo remained Duran Duran’s guitarist for many years and has continued as a solo artist, and Dale Bozzio has continued to tour and occasionally record as Missing Persons ‘featuring Dale Bozzio’. Her visual influence can clearly be seen in artists of the day, namely Lady Gaga.
