Bannings: If you're not nice
I've added a cover image and Amazon links to Joseph's post above. The SACD can be purchased directly via Vocalion's Amazon storefront.

I'll mention this since it seems to come up in every SACD thread --

Like most audiophile discs, it can also be purchased from the label's own website (which is based in the UK). This is a practice I personally can't abide -- a label undercutting their own retail channels, which is frankly contemptuous of their customers -- but I do like their SACDs, so I buy them from the Amazon storefront.

Is it cheaper thru Vocalion's Amazon storefront?

Haven't checked this one. Earlier in the year, another Vocalion title was a cheaper through their own website. I just won't buy that way (already ordered this one from Amazon USA), but I understand that "money is money".

OH Yes, "money is money" and the direct to seller model allows the vendor who is taking all the risk create and market a better chance for a increase profit margin for ongoing operations.

The vendor is taking no risks, they already own the material. Vocalion is a very old subsidiary of CBS, now Sony, and all their releases are Sony-owned titles.

It's very similar to what Audio Fidelity had shrunk down into by the end. Doing virtually no work on the quad masters at all. By not selling them through proper retail channels -- which would be making them available to Amazon as general releases, not just setting up their own storefront in each country -- they're guaranteeing that they never break out of tiny cult status.

I like owning these, but you might be right that there's little audience for them outside of multichannel enthusiasts. Regardless, I find the practice of a label selling direct from their website and undercutting their own prices elsewhere to be obnoxious.

Why, it simply profit margin. They capture without a "middleman". Amazon is a worldwide platform that is unparaell, why not use their reach for offering and/or advertising their product.

The Amazon website states: Ships from and sold by Vocalion/DuttonEpoch. - They are a marketing platform here.

Linda, if Vocalion had you as their sales advocate, managing their music classifieds as you do with Amazon here on Imwan, one can imagine the business and sales you can deliver.

Not stopping you from buying from Vocalion's website. Rather, I wanted to explain why I buy from their Amazon listings only.

And I appreciate Joseph alerting us all to this release. If I could get every quad album I had as a teenager on SACD, I would. (I might be pretty close to accomplishing that, actually.)

Linda, if my girlfriend can't stop me you don't even have a chance.

As for the Quad's, I am so into it as you. :yay:

I am going to take credit for this, I wrote to Vocalion and asked them to do Argent's ' In Deep' since my SQ Quad has been with me since inception.

Well lo & behold we have it with two other Argent titles as well. Of course not Quad since never mixed but re-mastered. Very excited about this!

I'll be grabbing the Argent & probably the Miles when the price drops (which it will within 2-3 months).

It's Dutton's niche (Thank God). There's also still some coming out of Japan & a few titles from Analogue Productions & Mobile Fidelity

And hopefully Intervention Records, he is issuing Burrito Deluxe on SACD and hints that we may get more. Orders are being taken for the Flying Burritos release now scheduled for next month.

It is good news, of course he is asking for us to deal direct via PayPal so orders are charged right away. That is taking a chance but I figured for one title it is worth a try.
For Dutton releases I do use their Amazon link on the Canadian site, it might help them keep issuing product, I do the same with all current Mofi and APO product. I assume the "little guys" get a bigger slice of the pie when you deal direct, maybe I am mistaken?

Happy New Year everyone.

When you buy direct from Dutton on their website, they get considerably more money than if you buy it from ANY retailer.

Mofi's main retailer is Music Firect; & APO's is Acoustic Sounds. I THINK Mofi owns Music Direct; that might be equal. Per AS Customer service APO & AS are separate companions; afaik APO doesn't sell direct at all.

Almost, correct- Music Direct owns MFSL. Purchased it in 2001.
