Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The U.S.A." A miraculous original project in Japan releasing a set of four discs, consisting of the original album with 2014 remastering and three bonus discs.

The bonus CDs contain 29 live tracks from the full live performance at the NJ Giants Stadium on August 22, 1985, a few months after his first show in Japan. The setlist is close to that of the April 1985 show in Japan, and although it has been available on DL and CDR in the "Live Bruce Springsteen" Official Live Archive Series, this is the first time in the world that it has been officially released on CD.

Features 7-inch cardboard sleeve packaging with a photo book and a booklet with rare episodes regarding his first visit to Japan. Features the high-fidelity Blu-spec CD2 format.

This is so strange. I don't really understand what the Springsteen camp are thinking with this BITUSA 40th campaign. So far the only release has been the red vinyl LP of the original album with "a gatefold sleeve and exclusive booklet with archival material from the era, new liner notes penned by Erik Flannigan and a four-color lithograph". So nothing, really. Then this deluxe set that appears to be Japan only, and that has received no real fanfare. Very weird marketing.

It's almost like Springsteen himself is only interested in releasing vinyl in the USA. I'm still pissed that The Album Collection, Vol 2 1967-1996 only got a vinyl release here, but had a really expensive CD issue in the Japan that I ended up passing on. At least now the exchange rate between the dollar and the yen is so favorable, that these Japanese releases can be gotten for a pretty good price if you can bundle a few titles to knock the impact of the shipping cost down a little bit.

I wonder if this is a situation similar to last year's Japan-only release of Bob Dylan's The Complete Budokan 1978. Maybe Sony has found that the sales of that set have been substantial enough without having to press different editions in countries around the world. Let's face it, people who still support physical media do most of their buying online as the variety available in stores is so limited. And people associate Japanese music releases as a premium, well-made product and are willing to pay a little more for it. If this does wind up being for sale on Amazon sites, there's really no reason to issue editions from different regions. The world is shrinking.
