This must be the most successful Superman story of all time, no? Not just for the sales at the time, but the longevity -- they've done a ton of collections of this material in all kinds of formats, three animated movie adaptations (counting next year's Reign of the Supermen), and a pseudo-adaptation in the Batman v Superman and Justice League movies.

This has become a huge part of the Superman mythology.

Season 8 of "Smallville" kinda sorta adapted this storyline too, but without the distracting flights and tights.

Seems to me that some of the original Siegel & Shuster stories must be a bigger deal. How many times must they have been reprinted by now?
