Gaslight Anthem's Brian Fallon announces side-project

The Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon has launched a new side-project named The Horrible Crowes.

Fallon has set up a blog, http://cassettesinthemailbox.blogspot.com, for the new outfit, which features musician Ian Perkins as well as himself.

"What we're doing is writing songs and making demos at the very moment," he explained. "We hope to put out a full-length record sometime this year, before it gets cold again."

Fallon wrote that "Gaslight isn't planning on recording until the fall, for a 2012 releaseā€. He added: "Every time I write a creepy Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Mark Lanegan-type song, I get an idea for a ripper which goes straight to Gaslight," he explained.

He also suggested that The Horrible Crowes may tour, writing: "We might do a few shows with the Crowes, maybe select cities in the US, Canada, and Europe/UK, but not major touring like Gaslight does."

Gaslight Anthem side-project Horrible Crowes to record album next month

The Horrible Crowes, the new side-project from The Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon, are set to record their debut album next month.

Writing on the band's official blog, Thehorriblecrowes.blogspot.com, Fallon explained that he has 15 songs written and that Dropkick Murphys producer Ted Hutt would be at the controls.

"We now have what we call a record," he wrote. "There's 15 songs written, of which 11 or 12 will be on the record. As of right now we have no title for the album, but we know Mr Ted Hutt will be producing."

He added that recording will start on May 2. The band is a team-up between him and musician Ian Perkins.

The singer had previously said that the duo have been inspired by the likes of Tom Waits and Nick Cave for their new project.

Fallon will return to the UK in June to play Download Festival with The Gaslight Anthem.

Gaslight Anthem man borrows Meat Loaf's piano to make 'young girls scream'

The Horrible Crowes, the new side-project from The Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon, have revealed that they are using Meat Loaf's piano from his 1977 album 'Bat Out Of Hell' for their debut album.

The band - which is a collaboration between Fallon and The Gaslight Anthem tech Ian Perkins - entered the studio last week to start work on the record.

Updating fans in a post on his blog, Cassettesinthemailbox.blogspot.com, Fallon stated: "The piano you see pictured above [on the blog] was also used on a record called 'Bat Out of Hell' by a guy named Meatloaf, which is one of my top 20 albums of all time."

Fallon added that "60 per cent of the piano work and about 80 per cent of the Hammond B-3 Organs" are completed and that the album "is coming out better than I could have ever dreamed." He later joked that "this record is going to make the old women blush and the young girls scream."

The Horrible Crowes' debut is being recorded in New Jersey with Dropkick Murphys producer Ted Hutt at the controls.

Gaslight Anthem frontman completes work on new album with his roadie

The Gaslight Anthem vocalist Brian Fallon has finished work on the debut album from his side-project The Horrible Crowes.

The record will be entitled 'Elsie' and is due for release through Side One Dummy Records in the UK on September 5. Speaking to Spin Magazine, Fallon revealed that the album is: "not what you expect from me at all."

'Elsie' was recorded in New Jersey as a collaboration between Fallon and The Gaslight Anthem roadie Ian Perkins.

"Radical is a good word to describe the record. It's definitely out there," says vocalist/guitarist Fallon. "Someone's either going to get pregnant or want to steal a car listening to this record." Fallon goes on to reveal track titles for 'Elsie' include 'Go Tell Everybody' and 'Mary Ann'. "That song would give a kid nightmares for months," says the singer of the latter track. "It's all about the end of the world."

Fallon will play as part of the Revival Tour in September with Dan Andriano, Chuck Ragan and Dave Hause, across the UK and Europe.
