This is going to be a commission based on Tales To Astonish #91. In this the original,
the Hulk tries to go away, but Rick Jones drags him back telling him that the Abomination
has kidnapped Betty. This shocks the Hulk into changing back into Bruce. General Ross
tells Bruce to change back into his alter ego, but Banner replies that since the Abomination
is stronger than the Hulk, they need to use brains rather than mere brawn to prevail.
Well, in my version it's Betty who is the She-Hulk and General Ross hasn't given her medical
attention merely to save a pipsqueak scientist, since the She-Hulk IS his daughter. But Bruce's
cousin Jen Walters (the Rick Jones equivalent) do want Bruce saved as also Glenda Talbot.
(I don't think Glenda is quite a romantic rival for Betty, but she DOES care about Bruce.) Betty
points out that the Abomination is stronger than her alter ego, and it's going to take more than
just the She-Hulk to get Bruce back.
One significant difference though. In the original, Bruce has apparently built an all-purpose gamma
weapon that not only lures gamma irradiated creatures and paralyzes them, but also drains them of
enery. And he did this BEFORE he became a fugitive. I find this a LITTLE hard to believe. In this
scenario, Bruce has had plenty of time to build such devices since he isn't a fugitive---and he wants
to cure Betty. Betty is a scientist, but she hasn't made any of Bruce's stuff---but she understands how
they work. She also gets the idea to adapt a separate device ("Scarecrow") designed to repel the She-Hulk
from military bases and turn it into a beacon to lure the Abomination back and save Bruce.
This commission will be longer when it is eventually finished.
