Anyone see this show? I just watched an episode on HG Wells and another on Philip K. Dick. One on Arthur C. Clark has started... taping the rest they're showing today.

I think this show is produced by Ridley Scott, who seems to be in each one. It's on the Science channel, so check it out.

Jules Verne was the most prophetic science fiction writer ever, IMO.

I imagine these shows will be full of "and LOOK! He predicted THAT!" when, in most cases, they did not predict that, really.

Did not predict it . . . but perhaps imagined it?

Not yet, but we will be.

A lot of times, when the "prediction" is even somewhat close, it's quite a stretch on how thye link it -- for example, HG Wells Invisible Man and some of the research that's going on in actually making things invisible.

However, the strength of the show isn't "LOOK! He predicted THAT!" but in a person like me who doesn't follow science being able to see what some of the modern research being done is and to learn interesting tidbits on the lives of the writers featured.

It's probably not a worthwhile show for people who a) follow major work being done in the scientific community and b) already know a lot about the major creators of science fiction, but for people with casual interest like myself, it's a fun show.

If there's a Jules Verne one you'll freak out - that guy really did imagine lots of stuff that's been invented in the years since his death.

The Arthur C. Clarke one seems like real predictions come true.

This is a great show. If you all weren't such spineless pussies, you'd realize that.

It sounds great. I don't think I get the Science Channel.

It's a fairly simple concept. It's a channel where all the shows have something to do with science.

Sounds kind of high concept. It eludes me.

But Arthur C. Clarke predicted you'd be paying $2 for episodes of TV shows on the Internet.

You pay $3 or $4 for comic books that won't provide an hour's worth of entertainment.
