I traded in the 100+ Savage Dragon issues I have to a used book store and scored a half-dzoen cds this weekend. Employee discounts rock. New stuff by:
Tinsley Ellis - Pretty good blues rock
Gary "US" Bonds - straight-up, old-school rock n' roll - Bruce Springsteen on backup vocals on one track, too.
David Jacobs-Strain - a young slide guitarist who sounds like an old bluesman. Fabulous - one of the best blues cds of the year, IMO.
Etta James - Her new cd's a bit of a departure - no horns, no r&b, just straight up blues standards. She's excellent, but any hardcore blues fan will have a dozen versions of every song on the cd already.
Sue Foley - A live cd by the Canadian blues guitarist. If you like Foley, you'll like this. If you don't, this won't change your mind.
Willie "Big Eyes" Smith - Muddy Water's old drummer teams up with a bunch of stellar blues musicians. Straight-up blues from the old school.
Two blues shows to see this week - Jerome Godboo (a great harp player) got a CD release party tonight at Jeff Healey's club, and Saturday for John & The Sisters - who had my favorite cd this year so far, so I'm REALLY looking forward to it.
I grabbed the last couple issues of Doom Patrol yesterday - more old-school fun. This is the only series right now that feels like the early 80s comics I dig so much.
I also placed the online order for the rest of the Sept 79 books I needed. When they come in, I'll have enough to bring me up to vol. VII of my bound comics.
Oh, hooked up with Jason Gourlay on Friday night and drank way too much bourbon. His taste in neighborhood bars seems to somehow be both far classier and more seedy than mine at the same time. Fun time, though.

I picked up some albums this week end as well:
Minstry of Sound Club Classics - 3 cds, took me straight back to the mid-1990s and days of shagging, drinking and ending up in strange places (not much change then!)
Beethoven - Symphonies 1 - 9 [BOX SET] - Picked this up second-hand and get a great deal on it.
Vaughan Williams: The Ultimate Collection - One of the best brit composers.

The record store I work weekends at has a half dozen big boxes of cassettes that a free to the employees. I've pulled a couple dozen classical albums out for the roomate.

Hmm. Would this make Jason The In-Betweener?

He's an enigma wrapped in a riddle wrapped in an all-meat pizza and side of spicy buffalo wings.

Nope. I figure that's Melissa.
I'm actually a creature of evil cursed by an ancient magic (greed); possessed by a righteous man in order to fight evil at it's heart (King and Bay). Say it with me now, and look for my new series in February - "Gone, gone, the form of man, rise the , drunk again"
