8-) Went to see it today...surprised at how different it was from pitch black. Felt more like Dune to me. Enjoyed vin diesel enjoyed the lady who played the girl from the first movie. Very fun movie all around.

Went with some trepidation because, while I love sci-fi eye candy, the reviews I'd caught were not flattering. And no huge surprises plotwise (and don't expect any acting Oscars), but a tolerable way of passing a couple of hours. Vin growls pleasingly, production design is very effective (and SFX are mostly good), Dame Judi (slumming it) adds a welcome touch of class, and it's all set up for a further sequel. Low point for me - Thandie Newton, who I think is utterly gorgeous, wearing Michael Jackson Thriller zombie eye makeup which renders her as unattractive as Halle Berry in the Catwoman cossie, while doing a cut-rate sci-fi version of Lady Macbeth. High point - FX which show how The Flash could be done effectively in a super-hero movie as well as the Matrix: Revulsions showdown shows how a Superman superpowered fight could be done.

I enjoyed it. If you are interested, there is a half hour "in continuity" cartoon called "Chronicles Of Riddick: Dark Fury." The cartoon explains what happened between Pitch Black and Cronicles and the cartoon characters are voiced by the movie cast.

I enjoyed The Chronicles Of Riddick. It wasn't as good as Pitch Black, but it was still a very fun dark SF movie. Too bad it did so poorly.

Didn't Vin ask Dame Judi to be in the film??

I think they went overboard on the ripple-glass effects and the Blur effects not that it was badly done, there was just to much of it.

I did like the Flash Effect tho, I think they did a good job especially when the bad guy get it at the end.

I've seen some of the ads for the animated DVD, will see if I can rent it here when it comes out.

This weekend I went to see it again....on a second seeing.
Still a good film but I have to say the effects are to much. I wonder if people really pay attention to what's going on during the fights because allot of that was just "wow factor".
Can be very entertaining but when your trying to follow what's going on it's distracting.
I felt the same way after watching Gladiator on some of the fights that they sped up the film and inter-cut allot of footage.
It maybe just me because most of the time I catch most of the frame by frame action when I concentrate on it, it's abit to much for me anyway.(wow factor aside)
After the Matrix films I guess more people want to see this kind of thing but can anyone really follow whats going on?

This is a good a place as any to get peoples views on how they feel about effects on films.

Not CGI 3D stuff, but the use of visual effect to enhance footage.
