The more that I've been reading back issues and reprints of comics, the more I see the name Archie Goodwin either as writer or editor on quality work. Could this guy be deserving of more adulation and respect than he gets in comics fandom?

I've never read the complete Manhunter. I'll have to pick that up.

I loved the Goodwin/Infantino Star Wars.

It was cool when it came out because it was a tiny back-up story that ran for months and months. Always left you wanting more. Then you had the big finish as the lead story with Batman. Good stuff.

I'm seeing him as a repeat writer in the Creepy Archives (Warren).
That Manhunter cover looks a lot like the 9,000 commission Walt recently did for charity.

Yes. He was thereafter credited as "Guiding Light" even though he was no longer among the living. I found that to be classy as hell.
Add me to his fan club, please. I think he was a frickin' genius.

He also edited Legends of the Dark Knight and was responsible for brigning in a lot of talent to DC - he gave Warren Ellis his first job and also brought in Garth Ennis, John Mcrea, Grant Morrison, Bart Sears, and many others to people's attention at DC via Legends of the Dark Knight.

I got my copy of the Blazing Combat Archive today. Boy, what a beautiful book. The art is absolutely stunning.
Highly recommended.

Got it today -- this is a gorgeous volume. Sort of 'off the radar" because it's a one shot from Fantagraphics. I encourage anyone with even an inkling of war comics interest to get this one while it's out.
A little history: Blazing Combat was the Warren war mag that came out in 1965. But it was so controversial (anti-war) that it got shut down from all the boycotts. It only lasted four issues. So you have it all in this one handsome volume.

My only complaint about the Blazing Combat Archives is the page size. I would have preferred the size of the Creepy and Eerie Archives.

Your opinion about what you like is wrong in that regard.
My only complaint is the Frazetta covers are not included.

Hey, this I found funny. I was checking into Amazon to see if you were yanking my chain (you were, I think), and I saw this one reader review: Partial quote: Quote: And I certainly could have done without the introduction by Michael Catron. Lefties whining about censorship a half-century ago sound silly and hollow in a world where one left-leaning government banned a US talk-radio hosts for what amounts to "thought crime" at the same time as our Congress debates the so-called Fairness Doctrine. (And Mr. Catron, what stories are we NOT seeing, reading, hearing right now, in the present day, because of the left-leaning bias in Hollywood, in publishing, and on television?) I feel the same way as this guy, except the irony of it is what makes me love it all the more.
