How did you come to be involved with this comic? Did you and Mike Vosburg have further plans for the character?
That started out as a Nightshade story that I was writing for Bob Layton's
Charlton Bullseye fanzine. Vos had drawn it and I had written a first draft when
Bullseye went the way of
All-Flash.
Bob took the script, changed any Nightshade references to "Black Angel," and ran it in
Heroes Inc. (He was working as Woody's assistant by that time.)
Since Vos had designed a new costume for Nightshade, few ever suspected whom the Black Angel was.
If you look closely at those first two panels, you might recognize a slight similarity between "Number 10" and Steve Ditko's Captain Atom.
I do wish that Bob had given me a chance to produce a
finished draft of the script before he had it lettered.
(And I really wish that Bruce hadn't placed the credits over the character's knees.)
Oh, well ...
