From hennemusic.com:
It’s fair to say Paul McCartney has had a few tributes in his time, and there’s news that another one is on the way.
The Sun reports McCartney is making a new album featuring covers of his own solo material and Wings tracks.
McCartney hand-picked the artists himself, including KISS, The Cure, B.B. King, Paul Rodgers, Billy Joel and Garth Brooks.
It’s partly a family affair, as Paul’s son, James, will be on the record doing a song with The Cure.
"James was over the moon at playing with The Cure,” a source told The Sun. “He's always been a big fan. They all went into a studio in Sussex and hung out together.”
Sir Paul is thrilled about it. "Over the years, Robert Smith and Macca's paths have crossed countless times and he is chuffed having The Cure pay tribute to him," stated the source.
A full song/artist list has not been announced, but we know KISS have already recorded their version of “Venus And Mars/Rock Show” for the set, as KISS told fans via Facebook last August:
“After being invited, we chose and sang Venus and Mars/Rockshow for the McCartney tribute album. Other performers include Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, BB King and Paul Rodgers. The backing tracks were all recorded by Paul McCartney's touring band. We consider it an honor to be asked to participate on a tribute to one of the most influential and greatest singer/songwriters of all time. Not to mention, a major force in the most important band of all time, The Beatles. Wow!”
No release date has been announced…stay tuned.

Seems this is a tribute album, but that Paul may be on it as well. The wording is a little strange as is the list of artists! There may have been something about this before but I looked and couldn't find it.

Seems like it's going to be the same as the Ray Davies "See My Friends" album......if so, I'm not excited about this.
Aside from Paul Rodgers and BB King, I'm not thrilled with the lineup of guests mentioned in the article.

I wouldn't say I'm excited but I love Paul Rodgers, KISS and The Cure so I am intrigued. And Billy Joel could work well. Could care less about BB King and Garth Brooks.

IP, you might wanna consider changing the title to "New studio album of McCartney covers" or "McCartney tribute album," because when I read the title, I thought he was doing another album covering other artists.

If you read this part: The Sun reports McCartney is making a new album featuring covers of his own solo material and Wings tracks. That is why I left it as is for now. It implies Paul is making an album. It is not clear if it is collaborations, covers or both or a tribute album or a tribute album he appears on. I thought I already said this, but I share your confusion.

IP, your post was very clear about the fact it was McCartney doing his own tribute album. It was only the thread title that made it sound otherwise.
And I feel this way in general, not just about McCartney, but I don't think artists should be involved or overseeing their own tribute albums. And I felt that way when KISS did it also, although I did like a couple of tracks off theirs.
And I'll be very interested in hearing KISS's cover of "Venus and Mars/Rock Show" on the upcoming Macca tribute.

This has "Original Sin" written all over it. I'm scared yet intrigued (which is more than I could say about the INXS covers album).
I hate to see decent artists waste their time with this kind of bullshit. I've hated everything McCartney's done for the last 15 or so years, but even bad McCartney would be better than this.
It wreaks of music company executives saying that no one wants to hear an older artist record new music. It's everything that's wrong with the music industry today.

Apparently Heart has recorded "Letting Go" and "Hey Jude" for this, so it will clearly be an instant purchase for me.
