Steve Rude draws a great Superman.Of course, anything the guy draws is great.
Byrne also drew a nice Superman, particularly when inked by Karl Kesel.
As for Superman himself, what else is there to say? No Superman, probably no other superheroes at all.

I love Superman. I do prefer him (and Robin) with a shorter cape, however.

He can visualize a lynx like nobody's business. Also, he's a fan of cross-country walking.

Those Rude panels are from World's Finest(the 3-issue Prestige Format series), right?

I appreciate great art as much as anyone, but why not make it about the stories? Let's talk about the greatest Superman stories that don't have the last names "Moore" or "Morrison" on their credits page.

What about that one where Superman was brainwashed by Darkseid, but then rescued by Orion? Or the one where Superman and Big Barda do the deed on camera? Or that great story where Luthor used a super-computer to figure out that Superman and Clark Kent were the same guy, but refused to believe it?

That guy wrote quite a few Superman stories that were....memorable. His name escapes me, though.

The best Superman story I've read recently is this three-parter by Cary Bates and Curt Swan:

Image

Spoiler: show
Superman battles a robotic device of Lex Luthor's, but in the course of defeating it, an old building is destroyed. Superman rescues a young woman trapped in the rubble, unaware that Luthor is nearby, drawing a bead on The Man Of Steel. However, through the telescope on his weapon, Luthor sees the young lady and for some reason, can't pull the trigger.

Lex watches Clark Kent's news report later that day. The woman, Angela Blake, had only minor injuries. Luthor's obsessed with this woman, but doesn't know why, especially when he has an underworld auction coming up. He disguises himself as a meter reader and uses his super science to subject an unknowing Angela to a series of medical tests to prove that she isn't a robot or a clone. He has a stooge run a background check on her. After the stooge reports back in, Luthor has his robots kidnap her, where she confesses that she only has a few days to live.

Later at the auction, Luthor has put up for bid a cannon powerful enough to kill Superman. The bidders are several of the most wealthy and influential crime bosses in Metropolis. They ask for a demonstration, so he fires the device at them, which encases them in a impervious bubble. Things go awry and Superman captures all the baddies. Luthor turns out to be a robot, who explains that the device is actually a teleporter, designed to transport all the crime lords to police headquarters - Luthor's turning hero!

Back at Luthor's HQ, we see Luthor and Angela Blake talking. Angela is wondering why Luthor's trying so hard to convince her that he's gone straight. Luthor explains that he's known since he scanned her at her home that she was dying. He removes her wig - she's as bald as he is. The disease she has is incurable - or at least it was until Luthor put his mind to it. Ever since he first saw her through the sight in his weapon at the beginning of the story, he's been in love with her. He's cured her, and become a new man in order to win her love!

Part 2 coming...

Yeah, those are fair game too. I originally spun these off of the 'Great Artist' Appreciation threads, so you can see why I'd lean toward art. That said, it's all good in the hood.
