Never considered him a great actor, but he can hold the screen given the right material.

Not a huge fan. I voted for Captain America out of fanboy pride, but I think The Natural is probably the best, true "Robert Redford Movie."

I liked the Natural. It really fed my love for baseball.

All The President's Men, easily.

The Sting, Butch and Sundance are fun and entertaining movies, but not "great". I also really enjoyed Jeremiah Johnson, but I think the third act is problematic. ATPM is a classic, however.

I like many of them but it's The Natural for me.

The Sting.

Loved that era of movies starting with Butch Cassidy. He was quite the leading man at that time. A golden god.

I think that his best performance was in Jeremiah Johnson.

Half of those movies are on my personal classics list.

Butch & Sundance.

CA:TWS was an amazing movie, but that was in spite of Redford.

I suppose it is a testament to the man's body of work that two of my favorite Robert Redford movies, Sneakers and The Candidate, didn't even make the poll.

I like the Sting. I think it is great seeing Redford and Newman in another movie together. But, upon review, I question the anachronistic use of ragtime, particularly the melody "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin, in a movie set in the late 30's. Does this diminish the film for anyone?

And for the record, the anachronistic music does not diminish the Sting for me. But, I think it is interesting to discuss.

Well, there was a ragtime revival going on in the late 30s and into the 40s, so it's not that unrealistic, even if one is a stickler. I didn't even think of that when I saw the movie and hadn't considered it at all until reading your post.

For a movie that won the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars, The Sting is largely forgotten these days. Never on TV and never much talk about it.
I saw it at the movies in 1973, when I was just 13 without my parents. Still remember that day.
It is on Blu-ray cheap!!

It's on the cable channels now and then. It's in the rotation on one of the HBO or Showetime channels this month.

Now, Sting II, that's rarely on TV.

One of my favorite Mad covers. I still have this one somewhere...

Same here but I went with Butch and Sundance. Both terrific movies, though.
