I just wanna make sure I am processing any of my Amazon orders in a method where IMWAN gets a piece of the action. I have been here a long time - since the demise of ICE and the folks here are the reason I do not miss any of the music that I love.

Thanks

If you go to Amazon through the link at the bottom of every post or from the link at the top of every page, anything you add to your cart is credited. That should be all you need to do.

But if I understand correctly, if the item is already in your cart when you go to amazon via the link, IMWAN does NOT get any credit for those items that have been parked in your cart, correct? So, rather than transferring items from saved items to the cart, adding the items new and then deleting your saved items is the only way to assure the IMWAN credit.

I think that's correct and I'm sure Linda will confirm this. I always open an Amazon browser through IMWAN and add items to my cart in that window. I often "add to cart" from my Wish List and I think those sales get credited to IMWAN as long as I use the same Amazon browser.

That is indeed the case. I have never had stuff parked in my cart from previous visits so I didn't think about that possibility. The wishlist, if I'm not mistaken, does NOT give any credit to IMWAN, even if you get there from here. Linda will have to confirm that one.

Ouch, I was under the impression that I could add items to the cart from my Wish List as long as I did it from an Amazon window I opened through IMWAN. If that's not the case I apologize and will update my ordering process going forward.

Thank you for asking about this, guys. I am long overdue to sticky some sort of instructional post at the top of the ICEbox.

Basically, this is how the process works: IMWAN receives a little credit back for any item(s) that you place in your cart and buy during the same browser session after entering Amazon through one of our specially-tagged links. Items that were already in your cart from a previous visit to Amazon, or items pulled from your wishlist, will not give IMWAN any credit even if you had originally clicked through to those items via an IMWAN-friendly link. It has to all be in the same shopping session.

Rather than saving items in your cart or your wishlist, you could just bookmark the ICE threads for each release that you plan to get, and then click through to each of them in one shopping session. This is less convenient, but it should insure that IMWAN always gets credited for your purchases.

When I say an "IMWAN-friendly link", I mean any of the specially-tagged Amazon links that can be found in our release threads. Alternatively, you could enter Amazon through here:

Amazon USA
https://www.amazon.com/?tag=imwan-20

Amazon Canada
https://www.amazon.ca/?tag=imwanca-20

Amazon UK
https://www.amazon.co.uk/?tag=imwan-21

The fraction of your purchase amounts that we receive from Amazon, along with direct donations, are the only ways we have of paying for IMWAN's hosting and maintenance. This is what keeps ICE from melting. :)

There is a PayPal donation button at the bottom of every page in our forum, but Iet me include the donation link in this post too:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c ... id=4789062

If anything here is unclear, please reply to this thread or PM me.

Thanks for clarifying, Linda. I feel bad that I've been doing it wrong all this time. I like keeping an Amazon wish list because I'm able to track price changes and Marketplace availability. I assume I could just manually search for an item that's already in my wish list using an AmazWAN link and that would provide IMWAN with the credit, right? That's probably how I'll do it going forward.

I just put a row of icons across my browser bookmark bar. The icon for Amazon is the link with the IMWAN tag. That way anytime I want to go to Amazon, I click the icon and IMWAN gets credit for my purchases.

I will usually just copy the product name from my wishlist and paste it into the Amazon search box. I add it to the cart and it seems to credit just fine.

Great, that's exactly what I will do going forward.

I don't keep a wishlist at Amazon, but I do keep things in the "saved for later" section of the cart. I assume, Linda, that what you said, though, about the wishlist goes the same for "saved for later"?

Yes, Momo, the same thing would happen -- IMWAN would not get credit for that item.

This looks so tidy and organised. Nice.

Your hearts in the right place mate!

Thank you Linda for clarification.

I do something similar to what Mike does - if I'm getting something from my wish list, I find it again and add it to the cart. And I have IMWAN-friendly bookmarks set up.

Linda, getting into the weeds a bit here, but how about this scenario: If I enter Amazon US from an IMWAN link, and then go down to the links for Canada or the UK, does the connection carry over? Or should I use the individual links at the top of this page?

There's that Blue Rodeo Christmas CD I still need to order...

No, your purchase wouldn't credit IMWAN in the scenario you describe. You'd have to first enter the other country's Amazon site (in this case, Amazon Canada) "fresh" from our link upthread.

The links to each Amazon site can also be found in the menubar at the top of every page of our forum.

I'm continuing to receive questions from members about the way the process works, so rather than pointing each person back to this thread, let me just sticky it for a bit and try to make it more visible for everyWAN.

Bump: Since this thread is stickied, I've changed the thread title to bring it more in line with our tradition of "ICE" puns, which I hope that Robert M. (the opening poster) won't mind. :)

Now, a couple of months back, Rick A. had suggested to me that I post a notice about donations in the ICEbox the next time IMWAN's site hosting fee comes due. We're charged quarterly, today being the latest bill. I always post a notice upstairs in our comic book section, but Rick was correct that few ICErs venture outside of the music boards, so let me just link to that notice here:

viewtopic.php?p=2602196#p2602196

And I'll ask in this thread as well, any assistance which you guys might be able to provide towards our ongoing costs would be deeply appreciated. If you'd like to donate, you can do so securely via PayPal at this link:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c ... id=4789062

There's also a PayPal donation button at the bottom of every page. As I said earlier in this thread, Amazon purchases and PayPal donations are the only ways we have of paying for the webhosting and maintenance of IMWAN.
