I remember seeing him on TV way back when in the '70s with Maynard's killer band. Then his years with Ponty, and a string of classic albums—Imaginary Voyage, Enigmatic Ocean, and Cosmic Messenger. I saw him in 1984 when he was in Zappa's band. A monster player! – tho Zappa's cheesy drum and keyboard sounds that tour were pretty awful.

We are losing so many keyboard players this year. RIP.

I remember him fondly from Maynard's Chameleon album. Allan's solo during "La Fiesta" is awesome, as it bounces back and forth between the speakers/headphones like a ping-pong ball. RIP

That was my very first thought too. RIP.

FZ's sidemen continue to leave us all too soon.

This is the actual show I saw when i was a kid!:

This was filmed and broadcast in Philly, and hosted by legendary DJ Sid Mark—for years the host of radio shows "Friday with Frank," and "Sunday with Sinatra" on WWDB.FM. There's also a broadcast with Buddy Rich's small group featuring Kenny Barron on piano. Great stuff back in the day!

Wonderful! I'm watching it now. That was a great band. Thanks for the tip!
