Little Toy Soldier is a MUST for any hardcore Bowie fan. Be warned, it is a bit um............ off color!

I would say they are probably the best sounding versions I've heard, but they could be better. I suspect all are 7" needle drops, & both the sound & performance of Silly Boy Blue are pretty bad.

I played this on my main system, & my opinion isn't quite as high.

I had forgotten I had a 96/24 version of Little Toy Soldier (An essential song for Bowie fans). It sonically destroys the version of this cd, & not just because it's hi-res. The cd is mostly certainly from needle drops (though each song is tonally different). LTS on the cd is horribly bright & sibilant. I suspect those who usually disagree with me on bright sounding recordings would agree on this one. I have no clue what the source is for the 96/24 version. It sounds like a master tape, & it's almost a minute longer (though the extra time is just longer sound effects at the end)

Waiting For the Man is the best sounding of the 4, & an ok performance. Silly Boy Blue is cringe worthy & Silver Treetop is a throw away.

The reason I strongly believe these are needle drops aren't ticks & pops; but distortion that I have always associated with worn out grooves.

I'd still say this is worthwhile for a Bowie collector for Man & if you don't have a better version of Toy Soldier on a boot. (I've heard cd boots of that song that if memory serves are also a bit better; the vocals are INCREDIBLY sibilant on this transfer).

The "Toy Soldier" download you have is an alternate version. That and many other Riot Squad outtakes were released as a digital-only compilation called The Last Chapter. I heard it once and there was so much dross included I just gave up ... and I happen to really like Bowie from that era.

The four Riot Squad tracks on the Acid Jazz CD above are the ones which were commercially released in their day, and eventually collected (nearly 50 years later) as a vinyl-only 7-inch called The Toy Solider EP, also on Acid Jazz. There are no better versions of these tracks out there right now, and I'm grateful they released a CD which includes them. But there are no versions in any quality that will ever make these songs the crown jewels of David Bowie's catalogue.

No; you're thinking of "Feathers". Riot Squad was an English "Beat " group that Bowie was briefly a member of. It came to light fairly recently; it isn't mentioned in most of the biographies.

Only boots as far as I know. There's a couple tracks on the Love You Till Tuesday soundtrack cd if you can find it.
