Boy, great reviews and kudos for releasing a box of hidden treasures to salute TP talent and not seem to fan gouging, and then a week later they announce something unnecessary like this.

I don't get why it's being released on Island? I don't recall him having been signed to them at any point. But I can't get too incensed over a nice hits package being released for Christmas gift giving. There are plenty of people who just want the hits and have no interest in getting a box of unreleased material. If there's nothing of interest, we don't have to buy it. Not everything is aimed at the collectors like us. For a healthy retail market, it shouldn't only be for us.

Universal just randomly assigns an imprint to catalog releases, it would seem.

Remember when they did away with the MCA imprint and began reissuing stuff on "Geffen?"

I find it funny to see reissues on "Geffen" that not only had never been on Geffen in the first place, but were originally issued when Geffen never existed.

With Full Moon Fever turning 30 next year, I wonder if we'll see a deluxe reissue.

Honestly, this looks like one of those publishing promo compilations that occasionally find their way into collectors' hands.

I don't doubt that this is a legitimate product, but at this point I'm betting it's actually a UK release -- ultimately available via Amazon and elsewhere as an import -- that is being done with zero involvement from the Petty estate or its affiliates.

Please print a list of who is being forced to purchase this.

quite possibly the single most over-hyped "supergroup' of them all. i doubt i'll ever "get it'

Love the Wilburys, especially the first album.

Why would anyone be angry at a release like this?

It's an official career-spanning comp which is a first for Petty's music.

If the track listing sucks, then it can be blasted, but I don't see how it taints anything.

Angry would be a bit of a stretch.

Some people aren't huge Petty fans. Some of us are casual fans. I like the hits. What's wrong with that? Maybe this comp will pull in people who never were fans to begin with.

You have to wonder, what would Jimbo think of this?

The only time I resent a rehash like this is if it distracts from releasing other, more interesting, materials. Last week's box set shows that that's not at issue here.
