Starting this thread. The list is not out yet, but the dates have been announced - June 12 and July 17. Similar format to last year.

The first big announcement is something I'm definitely going to try to track down. I love this album.

I'm not super-interested in the picture disc, but the live album and live 7", absolutely. Hopefully it's not outrageously priced. Time will tell if there is a CD release (that and/or the price may get me to hold off).

RSD EXCLUSIVE 40TH ANNIVERSARY BOX SET OF 'ALLIED FORCES' IS SET FOR RELEASE ON JUNE 12, VIA ROUND HILL RECORDS

One of the greatest and most successful Canadian rock bands of all-time, Triumph, first rose to prominence back in the golden era when vinyl was king – and the preferred format of most music fans.

So, it makes perfect sense for Triumph – Rik Emmett(guitars/vocals), Mike Levine (bass, keyboards) and Gil Moore (drums, vocals) – to be named Record Store Day’s Canadian Ambassadors 2021

Previous Canadian RSD Ambassadors have included Marie-Mai, the Trews, and the Sheepdogs, and RSD Ambassadors have included Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Brandi Carlile, among others.

To prove this point, the band will also be releasing a Record Store Day exclusive/40th anniversary box set of their classic 1981 album, 'Allied Forces,' fully loaded with rare archival content and assorted unearthed gems.

A rock music collector’s dream, the Round Hill Records-issued set will include:

Vinyl #1 : Picture Disc of Original 'Allied Forces' Studio Album
Vinyl #2 : 2xLP 'Live in Cleveland' 1981
Vinyl #3 : 7” Single – Tribute 2021
Version of “Allied Forces” + “Magic Power” Live from Ottawa 1982 (Never Before Released)
11x17 Maple Leaf Gardens Poster (CANADA EXCLUSIVE)
24-page booklet featuring rare photos and behind the scenes. + 'Allied Forces' essay
40th Anniversary Allied Forces retro tour book
40th Anniversary Allied Forces retro tour poster
40th Anniversary Allied Forces retro tour pass
Rik Pics (3 Hand Drawn Cartoons)
Handwritten Lyrics (Magic Power, Allied Forces & Fight the Good Fight)

The trio’s first record to be recorded at their studio, MetalWorks, ‘Allied Forces’ spawned such rock radio hits as “Magic Power,” “Fight the Good Fight,” and “Say Goodbye,” as well as the title track, which became an automatic concert favorite. The album was also the highest-charting of the band’s career and earning platinum certification in the States.

“We’re extremely proud of ‘Allied Forces.’ It was the record that started the global rocket ride for us and we’re also excited to share with our fans some really great moments from our archives with this boxset.” - Mike Levine

A documentary and tribute record that are both in the works. On June 12th, 2021, fans will get the opportunity to re-experience ‘Allied Forces’ in an entirely new way!

I'd likely buy a CD version of that Triumph set. I'm hoping there will be one. Generally I'm not big into live releases but I would like to add this Cleveland show to my collection. For some dumb reason, Triumph became one of those bands that really, really stupid people like to make fun of. But they were fantastic live, great, great musicians that always put on a great show. Definitely one of the best live bands I've ever seen.

That live 1981 Cleveland gig is just the King Biscuit Show.

This deluxe edition is a massive disappointment and just a bunch of vinyl and useless replica memorabilia.

The List:

In light of the recent discussion of 3” CDs, I noticed that a couple of releases are listed as 3” vinyl.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “Angel Dream,” at 12,000 copies. Perhaps the most newsworthy release in this crop for mainstream rock fans, this Petty release “reimagines” the “She’s the One” soundtrack for its 25th anniversary. It’s tied in to the recent “Wildflowers” boxed set — but it’s complicated, as Petty fans would guess. As the annotation for the release says: “‘She’s The One’ included some songs that were left off the original ‘Wildflowers’ album, recently included in the ‘Wildflowers & All The Rest’ reissue. To take the place of those songs, four previously unreleased songs have been added here – two Petty originals (“105 Degrees” and “One of Life’s Little Mysteries”), a cover of JJ Cale’s “Thirteen Days”, and the instrumental “French Disconnection”. An extended version of “Supernatural Radio” is also included.” And it’s all been remixed and remastered.

There will be a 40th anniversary edition of the Who's "Face Dances" album, adding studio and live tracks. This is RSD First, so I'm betting a general CD release later.

Quote:
SIDE THREE: Session Rough Mixes
I Like Nightmares
It's in You
Somebody Save Me
Dance It Away
Don’t Let Go the Coat (Pete Vocal)

SIDE FOUR: Live at Rockpalast
Don’t Let Go the Coat
You Better You Bet
The Quiet One
Another Tricky Day

The Triumph set is 1200 copies and is also RSD First, so I'm betting a CD version will follow.

Some interesting stuff in there - Devo, Jerry Casale, Styx, Motorhead, Prince, and a few others.

Always nice to see archival jazz releases on RSD. Some great ones these past years. The Motorhead picture disc looks hilarious, so I'll be havin that along with the two Steely Dan vinyl LPs.

God Hates Heavy Metal - Dio - 12" Picture Disk - 3500 copies

Just wonderful that Dio's ex-wife must have completely forgotten about this song when they did the Angry Machines deluxe edition...but somehow she magically remembers it for a stupid Record Store Day picture disk release.

I would have bought the Angry Machines deluxe edition if they got it right, but I passed on it since they didn't get it right and I'll pass on the picture disk release as well. Once again, the record industry makes it incredibly easy for me to keep my money in my pocket.

Our province (Ontario) has been under lockdown the last six weeks, then Tuesday the government announced that stores could open starting yesterday at 15% capacity. Given the short lead time most stores have been scrambling to get ready for this event and that, combined with the lack of many compelling releases this time around, and the closest participating store to me being 100 miles away, means I'll sit this one out.
The July drop has more titles I'm interested in getting, hopefully the government won't shut us down again.

Mixed bag today. I was able to pick up the Triumph set, the Who, the Devo (passed on Jerry Casale's since it's coming on CD), the Motorhead/Girlschool picture disc, and the Styx EP.

I ultimately passed on Prince and Elton John because I didn't have enough money w/me. Triumph won out over those two, but its price. Also passed on the UFO. But I'm willing to change my mind on all of those!

Never saw the Flaming Lips, or Albert Collins.

Snagged online:

Motorhead pic disc
Golden Gate Groove: TSOP, Live in San Fran 1973

Also:
Focus: Singles, Deep Cuts & BBC Live, 2LP clear vinyl. RSD release from Music on Vinyl. I didn't see this mentioned anywhere on RSD site, I just stumbled across it.

Waiting on Steely Dan and and Harold Land vinyl prices to come down.
Grab the Charlie Parker, Roy Brooks, and Roland Kirk vinyl next month and I'll be set.

Both the Prince and Elton John are Record Store Day First titles so they'll have a general retail release soon.

"Jefferson Airplane Acid, Incense and Balloons: RSD-Collected Gems From The Golden Era Of Flight"

Does anyone have any idea which tracks are, "Some of the ‘gems’ here will be familiar, while others are obscure, live, or alternate versions of Jefferson Airplane songs."?

I can not find any specific info other than the general statement Sony published above.

Thanks, I've seen the track list, but was wondering if there were any true rarities. Someone responded on another board; everything here is readily available on cd; though some are alt versions & some are live.

It's No Secret - LP version
3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds - LP version
Martha - single version (previously compiled on Loves You, Essential, and as a bonus track on After Bathing at Baxter's)
If You Feel - LP version
Somebody to Love - from Live at the Fillmore East
Wooden Ships - live at the Fillmore East, first released as a bonus track on Volunteers CD
Fat Angel - LP version
Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon - from Sweeping up the Spotlight (live at the Fillmore East)
Pretty as You Feel - LP version
Third Week in the Chelsea - LP version

I got The Replacements, Prince, and Supergrass titles. Also had Sweet, Shaun Cassidy, and Harold and Maude on my list, but just noticed those are scheduled for July.
