I read somewhere (can't find the link at the moment) that on the morning after The Incredible Hulk #286 came out, you confronted Jim Shooter at the elevator about the story and told him that it was lifted from Harlan Ellison's "Soldier Of Tomorrow." If that's true, what was going through your mind that morning when you had to tell the EIC about the problem? Were you nervous or worried or did you think the situation was funny?

Whatever you read was inaccurate, Darin. I was already living hundreds of miles from the city when that issue came out.

I did give Jim a phone call after I read that issue. And I've heard that Harlan called him shortly after I did.

But that was the extent of my involvement.

It's been a long time now. For posterity, can you tell us the reason for your phone call and what was discussed?

What color tie did it sound like Shooter was wearing over the phone?
