I saw a few of those E.C. science fiction comics in hardcover reprints many years ago. The big university library where I used to work had them shelved in the permanent collection of the Reserve Room, on the same wall as the hardcover Carl Barks Library collection. I recall liking some of the stories. But then I saw some that took the same gross-out approach as E.C.'s notorious horror comics, so I gave up on them and concentrated on Carl Barks Library instead. And anyway, there was more than enough Barks material to occupy my study breaks!

The LCS had the new GI Joe hardcover compendium set yesterday.
This is the one they had on Kickstarter.
I thought the price was reasonable so I picked one up.

I had Action Comics and the Green Lantern one shot as coming out last week but they were apparently delayed?

Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I'll put it here for now.

I finally took the plunge and got that Taschen Amazing Spider-Man collection....the full-size one, after I was able to find a fairly good deal for a new copy on eBay. A very impressive and beautiful collection, though I will admit I was not prepared for just how HEAVY it is. Not a book I will be sitting up and reading in bed, I guess. But it's incredibly awesome.

The one thing about it, though, is that an incredible number of pages of my copy came stuck together on the sides, and I have had to very gently pry them apart. I know lots of other IMWANkers bought this book, did anyone else have that problem?

I also think the cardboard box it came in is pretty cool and am wondering how everyone who bought it is storing it on their shelves. Did you throw the box away? Are you keeping the book in the box for its protection?

I also bought the first Omnibus collection of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing even though I already have all of his run in trades. But it's one of my favorite comics runs ever and thought it was worth getting the oversized deluxe treatment. However, I didn't know, or else I knew but forgot, that it has all been recolored in the modern style, kind of like the way Neal Adams redid all his Batman work. It looks nice enough but I'm not sure how I feel about it. Definitely would have preferred it if they had just reproduced the original coloring since the art was never created with such coloring in mind. Will have to wait and see if I want to get the other volumes until after I read this one.

Does anyone know if the Omnibus of the original Wein/Wrightson stories is similarly modernized? That might affect my decision to purchase that as well.

I'll check it out for sure, but Rafael Albuquerque, despite being immensely talented, does not exactly strike me as an artist born to draw Superman.

Not sure if Supey can really support 3 monthly books plus the Absolute title at this point though.
