Thanks! Only 3 pages away but I've been so busy that I'm not going to hit my goal of completing this by the end of March, alas.

Finally!

I completed the line art for Strange Heroes #1 (looks like we'll have to invent a new title, that one's taken) last night. I think I started this in 2022, so about 3 years to do 37 pages... though if I had worked diligently, I probably could have done it in about a year, maybe less. I go through big spurts of creativity and then go dormant for a while. Hopefully on my next thing I'll be able to adhere to a "work on your comic at least 15 minutes a day" rule.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! :D

I am in the process of coloring it now and we're starting to look at printing costs and all the rest. More to come!

I will pur-chayse this publication once it's been produced, printed, and presented to the public.

Colored three pages and sorta ran out of gas for a bit. Haven't drawn in weeks, so I am trying to kick start my engine again.

Been talking over a #2 with Greg and he created and design an Adam Warlock analog for the story, so I thought I'd try to give it a draw to get back into the swing of things.

Hanzo, I think you should do a web comic strip. Something that has very short installments. I think you enjoy keeping your creative talent in use, but the drudgery of producing long-form work is stealing your joy. Do something there it is (1) short bursts when you're up for it, and (2) still accumulates a body of work that you should be proud of.

I really appreciate you saying that.

I have thought about it, for the very reasons you've stated, but I just can't seem to build up any motivation for it. If I was planning to make it a career, it's something I'd probably do, but since it's a hobby, I try to think more in terms of personal success than financial / popular success. Having a web comic doesn't really push my cool buttons -- having a printed comic I can hold in my hands and give out to my dad and best friends and all the rest is something that would give me enormous personal satisfaction.

That said, I'm not sure what the delivery system for the comic will actually be. Originally, I was thinking we might make it an online comic and do two pages every week (I figure two pages has about the same content as a weekly Flash Gordan Sunday strip from the 30s, showing it's probably the least amount of material you can put in an installment and still keep people interested). But like I said, I'd like to do that printed comic and wanted to talk to my retailer (one of the biggest in the country), who mentioned he would be interested in carrying it if I ever had it printed. He's got an incredible mind for the business (I watched him build his shop from a tiny hole in the wall to a big chain of super-stores throughout Maryland and Virginia), so I'd be inclined to see what he thinks as far as a web comic -- Ed Piskor thought it makes people more likely to buy the printed work in the same way people like to buy "merch" -- but he's a special case since his comic was about the history of hip hop instead of the typical superhero stuff I like doing.

I'll figure it out at some point, lol. I think I might need to buy a book on setting long-term creative goals -- going by your feelings might work for a Jedi, but it's clearly not working for me, lol. I think I need a plan.

Thanks for taking a good look at it. It's probably just too much crap in there. Or is it the outer shape? I just tried to really burn through it and not get hung up, but found it came out better than I was expecting. Like all my other drawings, it'll take about 6 months to a year for me to get the distance I need to see all the glaring and obvious mistakes, lol.

All I can say is that you've come a long way over the past few years. And that you're achieving the sorts of stylistic effects that you're clearly striving for.

Yeah, I think that's it...the shape. It's sort of too uniform. I realize it's a radically different style, but you might take a look at John Buscema's Savage Sword of Conan. There are a lot of screaming and open mouthed otherworldly characters in there, and Conan himself is often wide mouthed too. I think he's the gold standard for that kind of expression. Even with the stylistic differences I think it would translate well. But then again, what you do is worlds above anything I could do, I'm just offering observations.

Eh, I think if you've got the eye for it and a willingness to fail and try to learn from it, you can probably learn to draw. It can take a while tho.
