Paul McCartney seems to be hinting at a new announcement involving The Beatles famous anthology series, The Beatles Anthology.
McCartney shared four images to his Instagram on August 19th which seemed to pay tribute to the series. His post consisted of four images, each of which contained the isolated numbers “1”, “2”, “3” and “4.”
While it’s not completely clear that these numbers pertain to The Beatles Anthology, it looks as though images from the bands three-volume set of double albums can be found inside the numbers on the screen.
No date or time for an announcement has been included with the images. There is speculation that the cryptic clues could be pointing towards the previously released anthology TV documentary being re-released on Disney+, given footage from the documentary was restored and used on the streaming services most recent Beatles documentary Beatles ‘64.
The original Anthology documentary was released in November 1995. It was made up of interviews with the band as the members themselves were able to provide a narrative on the history of the Beatles. Archival footage of their live performances and rehearsals also featured in the film.
The first album in the anthology series, Anthology 1, came out at the same time as the documentary. Meanwhile, the next two records, Anthology 2 and Anthology 3, weren’t released until a year later in 1996.
It’s still unclear what McCartney is alluding to with these cryptic images, but fans will continue speculating until more information is available.
A new edition of the Anthology companion book had already been announced, here.

This could be bad news. Did someone say "I Am The Walrus remix from The Blue Album"?
I can't recall re the remixes, as to the process. There is talk - again talk and speculation - that a process similar to what P Jackson did for Get Back may be deployed here as well. At least for the documentary proper that would be great news. Not sure how that would translate to the audio.
I am torn re individual releases vs box. I agree individual should be an option, as initially I am not sure I want to rebuy the first three - unless it is steller upgrades, but since many of the tracks are outtakes, alternate takes, 'elements', and Live I wonder how much of an improvement there can be (particularly Vol 1). However, IMO, depending on what Vol 4 consists of, I'd almost like to see that all the Vols to be rearranged to fit the eras...versus a jarring odds and sods on 4. Obviously if done that way it would necessitate everything.

I'd actually prefer box sets for the remaining albums. Oh yeah. It's Crapple handling this. Maybe there'll be 80th or 90th anniversary editions of these.
The Anthology albums were nice but they were ultimately superseded by the concept and the actual box set releases of Sgt. Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be. They became little more than samplers. While underwhelming, I found the individual album box sets to be preferable. Crapple has chosen to go back to another sampler.

I agree, trying to make Lemonade out of ...err...apples (crapples?) .
Re album-centric box sets...other than Rubber Soul...maybe Help (not familiar with how much outtakes, etc. there are), do they combine a few albums together - particularly the early albums (and MMT-YellowSub and sweep up any singles around the time. I know a lot of interesting items re the MMT and YS songs, just not a lot of songs)? Just wondering...

Most speculation suggests that Volume 4 will include various things from the Revolver, Pepper, White Album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be Super Deluxe Editions.

I really hope that this speculation is wrong if it includes a sort of "best of" of these previously released sets. What a waste that would be. It would be so Apple of Crapple to do something as stupid as this.

It's going to come in a nice box, with an inch thick book inside and everything will be remastered by Giles Martin using Peter Jackson's audio refinements as necessary. And we will all buy it. Just sayin'.

i'll absolutely buy "4:, and if 1,2, & 3 are just repeats, i will not buy them new. maybe a year or 2 down the road i'd get it used, but it would have to be cheap.
and i simply cannot imagine them selling '4' separately, i doubt many would buy 1.2. or 3 if they did that....plus there are multiple copies of 1, 2, & 3 in every used bin.

According to the write-up at The Beatles official store, first three volumes are remastered. No mention of any remixes. Volume 4 is 13 previously unreleased tracks and the other 17 tracks are from the previously released super deluxe editions.
Worth noting is that, in the box, all individual anthology's come in individual gatefold digi-sleeves with booklets, packed with four art-cards in an envelope. Considering each anthology will be in a separate digi-sleeve with booklet, it does give the impression that each anthology will be available individually at a later date. I guess we will have to wait and see on that.
8 CD set = $120 version with no art-cards, $130 version with art cards
12 vinyl set = $375 version with no art-cards, $400 version with art cards
