"The Late Mr. Kent" from The Superman AS did this story. Clark discover evidence that will exonerate an innocent man, who is days away from execution, for a murder he didn't commit. The real killer finds out and plants a bomb in Clark's car which obviously doesn't harm him but can't go back to his Kent identity without blowing his Man of Steel persona.
