Is there anyone around here who takes part in National Novel Writer's Month? Today is the day people can register, and even though I'm working two jobs and in school full time, I do believe I'm going to try again this year.

The goal: a fifty-thousand word novel, written in thirty days. The typing starts November first.

Anyone else wanna play? http://www.nanowrimo.org

That's about 100 times longer than my average story, so, probably not. :D

Sounds pretty cool, though.

I'm sure I could do it. I've done it before, actually! Maybe I will again.

I've participated for five years, but I've only finished once -- the first year. But it's a lot of fun.

To clarify, I've written something that's 50,000 words before. I haven't done anything at NaNoWriMo before. This is the first time I've heard of it! Maybe I'll try it in November. I've got some ideas I need to be working on.

I wrote 120 pages (legal pad) of a novel once, then started over and wrote another 250 pages. It's very, very bad.

The longest piece of fiction I've ever written is my as-yet unfinished novel. It tops out at about 45,000 words...but it took me about a year and a half to write, and I've spent a lot more time since then tinkering with it some more.

I don't think "speed novelist" is a role I'm cut out to play.

I registered earlier today! I'm probably crazy for even trying -- I'm working a full time job, a part time job, and going to school full time, so time is really short for me lately.

But NaNoWriMo is a gas, and I'm going for it. No plot, no characters, no ideas yet -- but it'll come. I hope.

My problem is not time (although the supply of that is limited) but energy. Work takes a lot out of me and leaves me wanting to do little but walk, bike, or catch up on reading when I'm home. When I do have energy to spare and I'm in the mood I can write and write. Not marathon sessions, but I could write 50,000 words in 30 days without too much trouble if I'm energized enough. The stories come almost compulsively. It's just a matter of having the energy to do something with them!

I need the alone time. The Hunted is how I proved to myself I could write long form if I pushed the matter. I just don't get 1667 words worth of alone time every day.

I'm giving it a try! I'm way behind - I did 1600 words on Day 1, and then none until about 500 today.

The actual novel is clearly going to be a derivative piece of junk, but I'm enjoying the process, and I figure it will help me realize that if I put the time to it, I can get stuff written..

I seriously considered doing it. But I had another long story I had made a beginning on and then shelved for a while. I decided I'd rather go back to work on that. So I'll be trying to get it done this month.
